Homegroup can not setup a homegroup on this computer.
I am running Windows 7 Professional on three Dell Dimensions.Computer #11. Tethered Internet Connection using a 3G CDMA Modem on T-Mobile Data Plan. (Homegroup sees this as a network without Network Access)2. Ethernet Network Connection using a Qwest Actiontec DSL Modem M1000 with a Wireless router module W1000. (Homegroup sees this as a network without Internet Access) "There is no internet access with this because I am only using it as a router to connect computer #2 and computer #3."Without using item 2 above, I get the error message "your network needs to have IPv6 enabled". It's a cell phone so I am not using it to connect to the other two computers. (IPv6 is enabled on the phone however)When using both items 1 and 2 above, Homegroup simply tells me that "Homegroup can not setup a homegroup on this computer".I do suspect there is much more that is going on here. First of all, I am trying to cheat by using a DSL modem as a router only. My cell phone is teathered using a USB connection directly to computer #1.I've been looking for a router or access point or hub or switch to use so that I can also access the internet from all three computers through the cell phone. I am not sure this is possible.Any help would be greatly appreciated.I am a newbe concerning Networking as I am in my first semester of Administration but typically get this stuff pretty well already. Thanks for your time.Dave Stansberry

Going about it all wrong. Keep it simple. Look at the setup for homegroup http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/homegroup overviewHomegroup start to finish http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/help/homegroup-from-start-to-finishHere's the details on your DSL modem that has a built in firewall http://www.actiontec.com/support/product_details.php?pid=38#q0 (better get to know how to configure that firewall). Does the modem have more than 2 ethernet ports (if you're going to be using wireless than it doesn't matter much), you just need to know if your ISP will allow more than one mac address out of t he modem. If not, then use something like a Linksys cable/dsl router/switch that can do the DHCP if this modem won't. forget using the phone to route internet traffic to the computers. You're making it too hard ;) Main thing, IPv6 must be enabled, network discovery needs to be enabled, file and print sharing needs to be enabledLets us know from there what you got after following the guides MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message.
