Homegroup and Access diened
Homegroup and access denied I have been running the 64-bit version of Windows7 RC since May 5, 2009 with no issues. Yesterday while reviewing my Homegroup I noticed than my password changed so I changed it back and the change was accepted. Immediately all access to hard drives displayed access denied. In addition, when I accessed Word, the software tried to install itself again. I reviewed several options on TechNet but nothing worked. I tried to execute REGEDIT and the path was not found. I tried to reset the ADMINISTRATOR account but nothing with execute. I turned HOMEGROUOPS off and nothing changed. I now have a dead system with no ability to access my data directly on the hard drive. I can access PICTURES, DOCUMENTS, etc. by selecting the Windows 7 access process. I tried to boot in safe mode and receive the same results, ACCESS DENIED. My PC is home built with an Intel motherboard and E8400 processor, 4 GB of memory and four 1TB hard drives. My primary use is photo (Photoshop CS4) & video editing and internet research. Please help, as my only alternative seems to be to rebuild my entire system and install all my software.

Hi, Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet Forum. Based on my research, I would like to suggest you taking ownership of the drive. 1. Please navigate to the target file/folder. 2. Right-click on the file/folder and choose Properties. 3. Click the "Security" tab and see if your current user is listed in the "Group or user names" list. If not, please click Edit-> Add button, type the name of your current user in the "Enter the object names to select " box, then click "OK" to add this group. 4. Select the user from the list and then check the "Allow" checkbox next to "Full Control". 5. Click the Advanced button and click the "Owner" tab. Then, press "Edit" button. 6. Select current user from the list and check the "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" checkbox. 7. Click "OK" to save changes and wait for Windows 7 to transfer the ownership of all the objects on the partition. 8. Click OK again to save changes and exit the Properties window. 9. Test the issue again. For references: ============== http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itproui/thread/9ca63305-394d-4297-950f-1bf7ff32ea57 Best Regards. Dale Qiao
