Home group simply DOES NOT WORK
I've been having trouble with my windows 7 desktop so I've recently done a clean installation on it. After installation, I tried to connect to a homegroup with my laptop (also running windows 7) and got a message that "an error had occured" and that I can't join a homegroup. After much, MUCH tinkering about, I managed to find that the problem was the teredo tunneling interface. after even more tinkering, I managed to fix it by messing with the registry key regarding IPV6. Finally, I managed to get both computers into a homegroup. BUT..... I can see my laptop from my desktop, I can access the libraries, but as soon as I try to open/move/copy a file, I get a message that I am no longer connected to the laptop, explorer freezes up and I need to restart it. I'm wondering why a service which is supposed to "just work" needs so much high-level tinkering, I consider myself a high-level user but I can't get the home group to work! I would very much appreciate any advice or solution! Both computers are running windows 7 enterprise, the laptop is 32 bit and the desktop is 64 bit, the installation on the desktop is brand new but on the laptop it's about 6 months old, both had the teredo tunneling interface problem.

Are you using the HomeGroup app in the Control Panel? I can't count how many times I have setup and joined a HomeGroup without problem over the past 1-1/2 years, so I am wondering if you are in the right area when you start.

Hi, On the laptop 1. Make sure that you enable “Turn Public folder sharing on” and “Turn Network discovering on”. 2. Please make sure that you have shared files with the desktop user. Right click the shared folder, click Share with, click Homegroup (Read/Write). You could also select Specific people and add the desktop user with both read and write permissions. On the desktop 1. Run Home Group Troubleshooter to fix the problem. 2. Run Shared Folders Troubleshooter to fix the problem. Click Start, click Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under Network and Internet, click Access shared files and folders on other computers.
