Home Premium to Professional Upgrade
Here's another upgrade question.... We have a laptop that currently runs Vista Home Premium. We purchased Windows 7 Professional and proceeded with a clean install. After several hours of working with the drivers supplied by the laptop manufacturer (who shall remain nameless) the machine was having significant problems and lost functionality of several components. So here is the question now that I restored the laptop back to Vista: If I purchase Windows 7 Home Premium and perform an "upgrade" install (vice the clean install) thereby preserving the drivers and programs, can I then upgrade 7 Home Premium to Professional with the product key I initially purchased? From reading the Windows 7 site, I know I can upgrade Home Premium to Professional via the Anytime Upgrade function, but I was not able to find any information on performing the same upgrade using my previously purchased product key. Thanks.

In-Place-Upgrade can only help repair system. In order to do the upgrade from Windows 7 (Home) to Windows 7 (Professional), we will need to use the Windows Anytime Upgrade. Here is the upgrade path. For Windows Anytime Upgrade (WAU), You can start the WAU process for key entry from Control Panel, System and Security, Windows Anytime Upgrade. Enter the Windows 7 Professional key and let the computer upgrade to Windows 7 Professional.
