My wife and I both have Toshiba laptops. Just the two of us. We were bothrunning Vista Home Premium until I upgraded to 7 (HP) last weekend. I have tried everything I can (I know just enough to be dangerous - to myself) but I cannot get the two computers to network. Each can see the other, and each can see the other's c, public, and users folders, and all are set to share, but whenever I try to access her c drive I get the "Windows cannot access \\Monica-laptop\c~ You do not have permission to access \\Monica-laptop\c. Contact your network administrator to request access." I had the same problem when we were both running Vista. Someone please help!

If you're trying to network the two systems using Win7's Homegroup that won't work; Homegroup requires both systems to be Win7.

OK, I get that. But can you do it through a Work Group? Can 7 work with a Work Group or only a Homegroup? If it can work, how is it set up?Otherwise, can 7 simply not network with any previous version of Windows? (I assume if it can't with Vista it certainly won't with XP, etc.)Thanks, ChiefZeke.

I have my Windows 7 system networked to two XP systems via a WORKGROUP. You set it up from Network and Sharing Center. Right click on Homegroup under the Network header and chose Work Network. Ztruker -Yep. No problem with establishing the workgroup. It's the access/permissions. I can see the other computer but can't access it.

Since the network machine can been seen by each other, we can conclude that the network connection is fine. This issue can occur by incorrect permission or incorrect system settings. I suggest you can perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.1. Temporarily turn off firewall and antivirus program on each machine.2. Share a temporary folder on another machine and assign the permission to everyone. Try choose Share with --- Specific People --- add Everyone, give him Read&Write permission. Then go to Advanced Sharing in Share tab, check "Share this folder" box, click Permission button, add the Everyone, check Full Control and click OK to test.Can the temporary folder be accessed successfully?If there is any error, please upload it to Skydrive (www.skydrive.live.com) and share the link to me.Thanks,Novak

Hi Novak -Thanks for getting back to me. No luck. I can get onto her laptop, but that's it. If I try to get into her c drive or the temp file, iit says access denied because I don't have permission. I took a screen shot of the error message and will upload it now.

BTW, forgive my ignorance, but how/where do I upload at skydrive? Is it secure?

The picture is only used for troubleshooting and the Skydrive is a public website which is used to upload information. It's secure. Since the shared folder can be viewed on the network computer, this issue can occur by incorrect permission. Please make sure to assign enough permission to access the folder.
