HomeGroup issues with verizon Fios wireless router
I have 2 machines in workgroup. One is connected directly to fios router via CAT5. The other one is connected through wireless. Actiontek router provided by verizon is both wired and wireless connection point for both computers. I enabled homegroup on my desktop which is wired. I then tried to join homegroup from laptop which is wireless and I did not have option to join homegroup. I then connected laptop using cable and it immediately saw desktop and joined homegroup. I disabled firewalls on both computers. I then tried wired on desktop and wireless on laptop. I now can see homegroup from laptop but still cannot see it from desktop. Unless I connect laptop using cable, it fails to recognize it on network or in homegroup. Anyone has seen the same issue with fios router? I strongly believe it is some configuration in fios router as Win7 is fresh install on both machines and firewall is turned off.Bhargav Shukla|PFE : Messaging |Exchange Server TechCenter|Microsoft Exchange Team Blog | My Threads|My Blog

Hi Bhargav, As we know, one of the requirements for HomeGroup is that the network be classified as a Home network. First of all, please just check if the wireless connection is identified as a Home network. Meanwhile, based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Please ensure that pinging from the computer with wireless connection to the router or the other computer is successfully. 2. On the computer with wireless connection, open the HomeGroup Control Panel, and select the option for Start the HomeGroup troubleshooter. Then, let troubleshooter to check if there is anything improper. 3. Just as a test, please just disable the HomeGroup on the computer with wired connection and ensure that there is no HomeGroup on your network. Then, create a HomeGroup on the computer which has wireless connection and see how it works. 4. As you suspect this issue is related to the router, please also upgrade the firmware of the router and see how it works. Or, change the router to see if it will work. In addition, I would like to share the following with you: At Home with HomeGroup in Windows 7 Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT
