The First Question Of Troubleshooting: If the problem is new, what changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't? The Second Question of Windows Troubleshooting: what is the malware/virus status of the machine? If you think it is clean, what programs (and versions) did you use to determine this? Be sure the computer is clean: http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_MalwareMS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Hello Malkeleah, Problem started about 3 weeks ago. Was using Norton's safe search for all activites when I noticed I lost the one of my Google search windows on tool bar. Since then, cannot access Google.com. Just completed Norton 360 ver.3.5.11 comprehensive scan with clean results and also Malwarebytes anti-malware ver1.36 with no malicious items detected. Also completed a flushdns and did a command that showed all "time outs" when trying to log on Google. Can't recall now did that. Think was advise from folks at Norton. I've been told I may have Host ptoblems? Stumped so far.

What browser are you using? If IE, which version? Does the same thing happen in all browsers? If you don't have a second browser with which to test, download/install Firefox .MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Using IE 7.0,5753.13. I downloaded Firefox with same results. I've tried to access with IP's that Norton suggested but no luck. Please advise.

If Google.com is the only website you can't access, then you may be blocking it with Norton or another firewall. How do you connect to the Internet? Can other computers on your network (if you have any) connect to Google? Open your hosts file and see what is in it. You'll find it in C:\Windows\drivers\etc\hosts. Double-click hosts and select Notepad to open it. Got any Google addresses in there? If yes, delete them and click File>Save. Close Notepad and try to get to Google.com.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Fyi, Firefox times out when try to access, Whenever I have tried to run the C:\ command that you asked for I always get a "refers to a location unavailable" response. Norton accessed my computer and completely removed the protection program and the problem still persisted. I am using IE>yahoo>Norton safe search, Bing, Ask, etc. I have no network but can connect to Google with a laptop when hooked to my DSL modem.
