Hibernate and standby used to work and now the options will not stay selected.
I used to use hibernate all the time on my Dell Laptop with Windows XP Pro and then one day it no longer worked. I know how to turn them on and the options show up under power manage but when I select them they go away. I have re-installed SP3 and have run all the updates but still can not make either standby or hibernate stay selected. At the power off screen the options are missing. Is it possible your disk space is low? Windows creates a file approximately the size of your installed RAM to store the state of the machine so if you have 3 Gig of RAM and don't have 3 Gig of available disk space, then you won't be able to enter Standby or Hibernate.HTH, JW
