Totally out of the blue yesterday (20 Dec 2010) my laptop running XP Pro SP3 with full updates developed a fault where Hibernate (both through the Shutdown menu and by pressing the on/off switch) sends the computer to full shutdown after briefly displaying the'Preparing to hibernate' screen but not progressing to the Windows XP screen. Similarly, Restart shuts the computer down fully and does not automatically restart. I have checked, unset and reset the hibernate Power Management settings with no effect. Any ideas?1 person got this answerI do too
