Hiberfil.sys protection
Is there a way to encrypt the Hiberfil.sys in Windows 7? I would like to use the file but want protection, something like a FSUTIL command to protect the pagefile.sys

You can try to use EFS to encrypt a file: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-is-Encrypting-File-System-EFS Hope that helps. Thanks for the feedback. EFS will not work on it because it is a system file. I don't want to use FDE on my hardware to protect the hiberfile.sys, nor disable it. Problem is I still have a need for hibernation on laptops. With the pagfile.sys I run a FSUTIL command to protect it with system base encryption. CMD (C:\fsutil behavior set encrptypagingfile 1). This let's me run a pagfile without as much security risk. I was hoping there is a similar solution for the hiberfil.sys which is a security risk for me. Thanks in advance!!!!

Base on my test, fsutil command cannot encrypt system file as well. There seems that you may need third party tools to achieve that. Thank you for your understanding. The encrypting files system that first surfaced with Windows 2000 cannot encrypt system files. I tested it on a disk and it skipped a lot of files. This is due to the overhead of the cypher Windows MVP, XP, Vista, 7. Expanding into Windows Server 2008 R2, SQL Server, SharePoint etc. I feel badly for my American friends who have to endure the extremists in Washington who are bankrupting the nation over ideology.
