Help with audio problems in Vista and 7
We have three computers at my house that are either Windows Vista or Windows 7 and several XP computers as well. XP audio always has worked great. Not so much on our Vista/7 computers. The audio on our Vista/7 computers is an endless cause of annoyance. On XP, we never needed to set "default devices" or "default communications devices" or tinker with enabling and disabling ports and/or devices. Everything always worked seamlessly. On Vista and 7, audio is constantly being muted or deactivated inexplicably, especially when headphones are plugged in or removed. If I listen to music with headphones, and then pull them out, the sound suddenly does not work until I tinker with the audio devices, and usually I have to either restart the program, log off and back on, or even restart the computer before it will work again. Note: this IS NOT a question on how to get my audio working. I can always get it working again, and I am aware of how to enable/disable devices, et cetera. The problem is not that I can't get the audio to work; the problem is that I don't want to have to get the audio to work. It should work on its own without constant fiddling and prompting! This is not a problem with sound cards or computers; all the computers are from different vendors and have different hardware, and all of them have good hardware and good drivers. This is a software problem in Vista and 7, and it is present in every Vista or 7 computer I have ever used. The problem is not limited to any particular program or programs; it occurs across the board. The same computers that worked fine with XP on them don't work with Vista and 7 on them--or they work in an EXTREMELY glitchy manner. I have searched all over the internet for a solution to this problem for YEARS now. When 7 came out, I hoped it would be solved, but it still exists. Many forums discuss getting the audio to work in Vista/7, but they only tell me things I already know: activate the device, update the driver, set it as default, et cetera. All of that is obvious. I am looking for a permanent solution to this problem, so I don't ever have to enter the audio control panel again. Is there some program, perhaps, that will automatically set up the devices behind the scenes? Can anyone help me???

Hi, I’m afraid there is no in-place program can automatically set up the audio device in Windows 7. If you want to turn on or turn off audio device, you can create a shortcut of Sound in Control Panel, then double click it to enable or disable audio device by yourself. Seven

Most of the time Windows Vista drivers work fine for Windows 7 rather than the Windows XP drivers so first check the compatibility of the driver. If there still is no sound then try some other sound card as the problem might be with your card. Sometimes, the default system configuration is also the reason for this sound problem, so go to ‘Control Panel’ in Windows 7 and check the sound settings.Windows 7
