Help with Blue Screen of Death error 0x0000007E
Stop: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0xF13A2B82, 0XF4EBCB30, 0XF4EBC82C) About a few weeks ago, i started to get the BSOD with the error message listed above. Every time i booted up my computer, when I got to the profile log in screen, this message would appear. I did a system restore back to its day one settings thinking I wouldnt have the problem anymore, but I'm still getting this error. I have no clue what the problem is and no clue how to go about fixing it. Anyone can tell me whats causing this and how to fix it, your help would be greatly appreciated.3 people need an answerI do too

That Stop Error is often caused by failing hardware, usually the RAM, so testing the RAM is your first troubleshooting step. I like Memtest86+ from www.memtest.org . Obviously, you have to get the program from a working machine. You will download the .iso to make a bootable cd. You will need third-party burning software to do this such as Roxio, Nero, or the free ImgBurn . Burn as an image, not as data. Then boot with the media you made (you may need to change the boot priority in your BIOS so that the optical drive is the first boot device). The test will run immediately. Let the test run for an hour or two - unless errors are seen immediately. If you get any errors, replace the RAM.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Malkelah, I just had this problem this afternoon as well and have already been running tests. The memory tested out fine, but I can't boot XP in 'Normal', 'Last Good Configuration' or 'Sage Mode'. If it's not the RAM, do you have any other ideas of what to test? BTW, I was running a virus scan and Windows Updates last night... I turned the machine off this afternoon and Windows said it was installing 1 update. I rebooted it about an hour later have had this problem ever since....

Good to know i'm not alone on this problem. I just finished running the test and i had no errors. If this means my RAM is working properly, do you know what else could be the problem?

I too have this problem - I received a prompt to perform a windows security update - it installed and recommended restart - I hit ok. Now I get the BSOD with the following: STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF79BE528, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). I can't boot in ANY mode - safe, last known or otherwise. I've checked the RAM as well and no problems on that end.Is there a way to run chkdsk w/out booting into windows? Do I need the install disk/recovery console? Any help is appreciated...

For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY (and/or 1-866-234-6020 and/or 1-800-936-5700) in the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB977165). (Thanks to MVP PA Bear for this information.) If you are not in the United States or Canada, there are local support contact numbers here: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx .MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Okay, I spent most of yesterday running hardware tests... the memory seems fine as does the hard drive and every other device. However, when I boot Windows, I still get a BSOD Stop error being reported from 0x0000007E ( 0xC000001D, 0x80537008, 0xB84CB3B8, 0xB84CB0B4). I notice that the memory addresses in the parenthesis are different from yours above, Spellbind, though that's normal. In addition I have put my XP disc in the drive and booted to that in an attempt to use the Recovery Console to restore to a previious restore point. No dice, man. The Recovery Console says that Windows could not detect a harddrive in the machine. I know it's there and the Dell hardware diagnostic passed, so I am thinking that something got corrupted on FAT table? Anyway, I'm posting here instead of calling Microsoft as Malkeleah mentioned above, simply because I have no idea which KB update it was that came down Sunday night... it's not like I usually write those things down. I think I am going to go and pull the harddrive out and backup the data to another machine for now... I see a re-install coming...<<EDITED>>HaHa... I called the number above, Malkeleah and after waiting through the greeting messages it says that all of the phone lines are out of service... guess I'll try back later....
