Help please- I just got Windows 7- can't find a setting :(
Hi, I just got a new laptop that has Windows 7. I am lost already... I set up a remote desktop connection so that I can log on to my work computer. That part works great. The problem is that when I am logged on to my work computer if I flip back to my personal side it is still using my work internet connection. It shows that I am connected to both home and work but obviously the default connection is work. This is making it impossible to do work and personal stuff because there are alot of blocked sites on the work connection- for example Facebook etc... Where do you change the default to use my home connection when on the home side and work connection when I toggle back to the work side? I hope this makes sense- I am technologically challenged ;) Thank you in advance! C~

Do you use a corporate VPN to connect to your office from home? Alternatively, you can view your network settings in: Click on: Start Control Panel Network and Internet Network and Sharing Center This shows a pictoral of how Windows 7 thinks it is talking to different networks. Hope this helps.MCSE: 6771498

This is standard with Win 7 and previous back to Win XP. The reason for this design is that if you change the routing to be able to get to sites that are deemed a security risk then you are potentially compromising your "work" network. If you understand this risk, then you can manually change the routing table on your PC by opening a command shell and typing "route delete 0.0.0.0". Then you add a route that points to your normal gateway: "route add 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.1" (where 192.168.1.1 is the IP address of your local gateway). This forces all routing to go out your local gateway rather than through your VPN gateway. You also need to add routes for your specific work IP networks that point at your VPN gateway address. I haven't done this for quite some time (since my XP days) and have never attempted it under Windows 7, but I can't see any reason why it won't work. The commands are certainly available.
