Help needed on Windows 7 Home Premium dropping internet connection
HiI know there has been a lot of chat about this on the forum, but all of the ones I have seen were earlier in the year before Windows7 was fully released. We bought a new HP Pavilion S5229UK at the weekend with Windows7 Home Premiumalready installed and are now finding that it isn't holding upthe wireless internet connection. We have other computers in the house running XP and Vista and have absolutely no problem with these at all.I just wondered whether now - with it fully released whether there was a definite solution to this problem? The problem is exaserbated with the fact that when it drops out it often prevents the Network and Sharing window to open, so you can do nothing about it.A description of the problem: When first booting upthe system, a connection is establised but soon drops out, sometimes couldbe as soon as opening Outlook(2007) or IE (8)but could hold on for 30 minutes. An ! is shown on the system tray and either 'Limited Access' or 'No Internet Access' is displayed (if you're lucky enough to be able to open the window). The only way to reconnect is by rebooting the PC.I'm non techy so please be gentle!Fanx

Hi, The wireless network connection issue can be caused by several reasons such as security program, network card driver, third party program and network settings. To troubleshoot this issue, please refer to the following steps: 1. If any security program (firewall, anti-virus) is installed, I suggest temporarily disable it. 2. Download driver update from HP site. 3. You can also test it in Clean Boot mode. If the issue persists, please try to reinstall network card driver as below: Reinstall driver ============== 1. Click the Start Button, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box and press Enter. 2. Double click to expand "Network adaptors". 3. Right click your network card and click Uninstall. 4. Check "Delete driver software for this device" check box, click OK. 5. Restart the computer If computer cannot install driver for network card, please install the driver from the driver installation disc. In addition, it also can be caused by hardware conflict, if any unnecessary device is connected, please unplug it.Vivian Xing - MSFT

HiThank you for this - I will give it a go and let you know how it goes. From reading other threads and forums we have tried turning the powersave off on the LAN card and wireless and also turned the Homegroup auto setting to User and Account. This hasn't really worked as I have been logged in for about 40 minutes and already lost connection once. The drop out seems to be totally random(it held up for an hour last night) and seems nothing to do with signal strength. Also, I don't know if this helps with your diagnosis, but if I'm running a LAN connection, this doesn't hold the connection any better - would that point to something? Thanks again - will give your suggestions a go!Julesy

HiThought I would provide an update and to see if there are any more ideas out there? We have reinstalled the wireless driver - we were on the latest one anyway, we have also disabled any of the IPv6 stuff - as per a suggestion on another thread.Unfortunately, none of these have really solved the problem, and still seems to behave randomly. It could hold connection for 6/7 hours or drop out 10 minutes after logging in. The really irritating thing about it is, it then jams up completely and the only way to resolve the problem is to shut down completely.Does anyone have any further suggestions or know if Microsoft are likely to bring out an update on this?FanxJulesy

Have you reviewedany power-saving options that might be associated with the network adapter? I'm thinking there might possiblybe some in the BIOS setup. This is just a random idea, in the spirit of helping you think of other things to check.-Noel

Thank you for this, will give it a go and see what happens. We had already tried the powersaving stuff that Noel has kindly suggested, but that didn't work either.Got my hopes up again, so fingers crossed this works.Julesy

HiNo luck with the info from the attached thread - our set up doesn't have a Receive side scaling item to disable.Part of what seems strange is that it's not as though we have upgraded our machine, this was bought with it on, so you would expect that to work, wouldn't you?Any other ideas?

Hi PeteI'm afraid we found no answers that worked for us! We changed power settings, updated drivers etc. We didn't have Windows Security Essentials on our box, so that didn't apply to us either. One of the big problems with this is that it would sieze Windows Explorer too, so navigating around became problematic and sooo frustrating!!!!We took it back to PC World yesterday (you have 28 days to return it, if you bought yours from there). The guy wanted to test it before giving our money back, butwe said there was a known fault with it - he looked on theirforum andsaw that was the case and gave us our money straight back. We're now buyinga Small Form Factor Shuttle.Sorry that the news couldn't bemore positive, becauseit has been a COMPLETE pain and major inconvenience with setting everything up on a new computer and then having to uninstall it all because it doesn't work properly. It was just bizarre as we had no problems with any of the other PCs on our network.Anyway,I wishyou the best of luck with it Pete, butI feel much better having taken it back to the shop!!Julesy
