Help decrypting files that are encrypted on XP
I am using windows Xp, and am the administrator and the only user of the laptop. I have only my username and a guest account, there has never been another account created or deleted. I have a small selection of folders containing pictures videos and word documents that i encrypted to ensure security whilst a friend borrowed my laptop for an eveneing. The files howeve will not decrypt!! I have checked this site http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com/windowsxp/articles/456/1/Decrypt-Encrypted-files-on-Windows-XP which to my eyes seems like it should work. However they are still not avaliable. Access denied, as usuaul. The only thing that i think could still affected is when i view my cirtificate, it says, (This CA Root is not trusted). I have tried to change this, and i hope this will be the thing that needs changing to allow to to decrypt my files. Does anybody know what i can do to access my files, and if so how do i do it please??? Thankyou

Hi, - How exactly did you encrypt the files?- Did you use third-party program to encrypt files, by chance? Follow the methods listed in the article mentioned below to decrypt files: How to remove file or folder encryption in Windows XPhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/308993 Also see Best practices for the Encrypting File SystemGokul - Microsoft Support [If this post was helpful, please click the "Vote as Helpful" (green triangle) button. Sorry, late reply after your speedy one. I right clicked the image, or file, properties, advanced, check the box daying encrypt, it worked as the images are encrypted, have green lables and can not be viewed. But now unchecking the box and clicking apply comes up with the same error everytime. i am not advanced enough in understanding the innder working of computers so wouldnt have changed any settings that i have known of. could the issue with the root cirtificate be an issue? Its quite frustrating that i am sure it is some error of mine, but i would apreciate the files back. Thanks, and apologies again,Gareth
