Help Second request for repair ideas! My computer will not boot to safe mode(F8). I even tried F2 it just skips over to a list of what ever __( goes really fast) to windows and opens normal.
I was having trouble with a program that locked up so I decided to restart in safe mode to see if that would clear up the issue. My computer will not boot to safe mode(F8). I even tried F2 --it just skips over to a list of what ever ( goes really fast) to windows and opens normal. The second issue -Then I decided to go into setup and then it opened to half screen? I have seen that before But I cant remember how I fixed it. Since I cant get into safe mode or setup I cant fix anything. Oh and i did do a display setting check and all seems normal>? I am using a dual head card (somewhat new-1 year old seems to be working fine)I dont have a haldf screen in windows XP start up.I cant for the life of me figure out why it willl not go into safe mode-I recently did a reformat.. everything is fresh and new on hard drive..and everything is working as normal- except this little wierd safe mode thing and setup 1 person needs an answerI do too

Try this program. Bootsafe it is to force your PC to boot into safemode on a reboot. As for F8 a lot of the newer PC's do load fast and require you to rapidly press it many times for it to register you pressing it."There are only 10 types of people in the world. If by "setup" you mean the BIOS configuration screens, the display here is NOT under control of Windows or Windows drivers. If your display in the BIOS configuration utility is "half screen" that is a function of your new display adapter. Check the User Guide for your display adapter to see if there are any BIOS configuration settings for this device (or -- unlikely these days -- DIP switch settings). With respect to getting to Safe Mode, if you can't get the F8 key rhythm correct, do the following while in normal Windows mode:Start > Run > msconfig > OKOn the "Boot.ini" tab, select the radio button for /SAFEBOOT (you can check the box to the right to get Safe Mode with Networking if desired)Reboot. When you are done working in Safe Mode, again start msconfig and click the radio button on the General tab for "Normal Startup" before rebooting -- or you will reboot back into Safe Mode.

If you are going to use the /SAFEBOOT option in msconfig, you need to be prepared or know what to do if your system never boots again in any mode after you make that adjustment. There is malware that recognizes the msconfig change, thinks you are going to try to remove the malware (and it doesn't like that idea) and then prevents your system from booting at all in any mode.As usual, the malware wants you to think you have to do a System Restore, Repair install or a complete reinstall when it is not necessary at all.Adding /SAFEBOOT at one time I think was a useful thing, but malware got a little smarter with these tricks so now I will never recommend it anymore."Your system won't boot at all in Normal or Safe Mode? That is correct.Did you try to figure it out yourself and use msconfig to add the /SAFEBOOT option?Yes...The Bootsafe program has the same potential for problems and violates my notionof not downloading and installing a third party application to try to do something that should be working correctly in the first place rule.Risky ideas in today's malware world. It is not hard to fix though but it is not in the XP won't boot troubleshooting guide anymore (just the symptoms and how to fix it).Don't guess what the problem might be - figure it out and fix it. If it is a hidden virus or malware SAS Portable will find it. Make sure to unplug/disable the internet from the PC, go to preferences, click the second tab and make sure the terminate services before removal is checked, then run a Full scan, after its done make sure everything it found is checked, click next to remove everything, Reboot and let us know if you still have issues, that will let us know if it is Virus related or not."There are only 10 types of people in the world.
