Help Networking an XP PC to a Win7 PC
Hi All
I have managed to get my Win7 PC talking to my XP PC, no problem.
My XP machine can see the public folder on the Win7. But there is a software on the XP machine which needs to access a certain file on the Win7 machine in the Program Files folder which I cannot get access to. I cannot move the file into the public folder
as the software on Win7 needs to see it in Program files. Help.
Thanks
Dianne

You said you can see the public folder on the Win7. Then can you see the program files too? If not, You need to change the sharing setting of Program Folder to make it accessible via network. Also, to make program control Network files, you need to change
the setting of Firewall to allow access to that program."Everything we do is dictated by motive."

Hi Ryan
Thanks for this. I can see public folders but they don't contain the program files folder. There is one folder in program files I need to access from the other PC but try as I may I cannot get sharing on either the program files folder or any folders inside
program files.

Hi,
If you want to access the
Program files folder, it is not supported; the Sharing option is not available for Program Files, and Windows system folders. In addition, you cannot share folders in other
users’ profiles.
Hope it helps.
