Help I have wrecked the laptop and
Hi all, Hope you can help me please. I was trying to clone my 1tb HDD onto a smaller 512gb SSD. After a couple of fruitless attempts, I shrunk the partitions on the HDD to around 300gb and tried again. In doing so have somehow managed to turn my HDD recovery partition and Main (Boot file, page file and crash dump) into basic partitions with simple layouts (and I can't seem to change them back), but I have managed to "clone" them on the SDD in primary format...but when I have tried to use the SDD to boot, I immediately get Bootmgr is missing press ctrl+alt+delete. I have tried to reset to initial settings, initially the reset starts promisingly, but then the system stops working and I get a 12 digit long error code. Also since I have changed the drives into basic/simple, so the original software (Reflect) no longer sees my HDD and I've ended up using Paragon and EaseUS Partition Master. The laptop still works however, I'm no better off than when I started and I have a 512 GB desk ornament. At this point if I didnt have my good looks, I think Id just end it all. Anyone got any ideas please?because Im proper stumped.

There are two mechanisms of cloning, either sector by sector (like low end DD copy) and file by file. The latter does not need the same target disk size. Majority of contemporary cloning software cover both methods. It is usefull to backup installation before doing test to preserve return path and decrease the size of boot partition before cloning (http://itexpertvoice.com/home/switch-from-a-hard-disk-to-an-ssd-with-little-fuss-and-bother/) In notebooks there is usually vendors software that allows for creating specific backup copy. I have solved this task by buying so called update pack that contains Acronis backup software (HyperX from Kingston). As the vendor's specific recovery is beyond the scope of this forum, I recommend to contact vendor's support forum. Regards Milos
