Help File Weirdness..
Just for grins and giggles, I dug out a rather ancient (by computer standards, anyhow) game called Castle of the Winds - which dates all the way back to 1993... We're talking a Windows 3.1 era game! Surprisingly - it runs just fine. In fact, it runs better on Win 7 than it did on XP where it would blow huge volcanic chunks pretty much every time I ever tried to run the program. (Well done to the programmers, btw, on getting compatibility right!) But here's where things get a bit weird. If I click on the help files in Explorer - I get an error message saying that the file can't be opened - and presumably where a link will go to download the WinHelp utility. BUT... If I have the program and navigate to the help menu and pick anything on it - the help file actually OPENS..! Furthermore it's fully navigable. When I click on Help | About Help - I get this window as shown here. Anyone got any ideas as to how this can be? Note the Help version is 3.10.425...

I see the help version matches the windows 3.1 eraversion. The helpviewing program must be builtinto the game. Makes sense. Winver tells you the version of the help program.

Oh Wolfie -that brings back memories. "Castle of the Winds" was one of my first games on Windows (after "NetHack" for DOS) with "real" graphics, not only ASCII characters fighting. The game system like an anticipation of Diablo, with all these nifty items to gather and monsters around the edge... Concerning the help files, you might use a "potion of clairvoyance", and you're done!Mobile AMD64 3000+, VIA Apollo K8T800 chipset, 1 G RAM, ATIRadeonMobility 9700, 20x DVDRW, C:XPSP3 (55G),D:WIN7 (25G),F:DATA (250G)

Sanmartin - Yeah.. It goes back a long ways for me as well. It's why I dug it out... I wish I could just wave a wand of clairvoyance and get the answer, but I'm afraid it's all out of charges...Mr Seven - Yup... I'll be darned, but I think you're right. When I look on the task bar - the game icon AND the help file are grouped together as opposed to having one game and one help icon.
