Help - Cannot transfer files over network from vista to windows 7
Hi all,I'm facing a rather strange issue where I cannot transfer large files (a few hundred megabytes) from my vista laptop to my windows 7 desktop. Both the computers are hooked up to the same router, the desktop via ethernet and the laptop wirelessly. They are also on the same workgroup. When I initiate a transfer from the windows 7 machine, the file transfer progresses quite steadily right until the end when it says "the file is no longer available, please check source" or some nagging message similar to that. I'll post the exact error message later.Right after that error message is displayed, the windows 7 desktop shares are no longer visible on my laptop. However if I try to access the shares from the desktop itself by using \\Desktop all the shares show up perfectly. Typing in the absolute path to one of my desktop shares seems to work the laptop, but takes a really long time and asks me to re-authenticate again (I have password sharing enabled on the Windows 7 desktop). I don't know why something so trivial is causing me so many issues, this might only be the tip of the iceberg. Any help will be appreciated.Cheers,Shreyas

Similar problem. Cannot move or copy large files from Vista to Windows 7. Windows 7 freezes. Must reboot into "safe" mode and delete the file. If try to reboot in normal mode, without deleting the file, Windows 7 freezes even though I have not done anything. No problem copying exactly the same file across network from one Vista machine to another. Was able to move a "small" (under 1 GB), but could not access the file with Windows Media, again Windows 7 froze and I had to reboot in safe mode and delete the file.

About your only recourse is to send feedback and wait for a better beta version, or perhaps an improved network connection device driver. My system transfers big files just fine.Rating posts helps other users Mark L. Ferguson MS-MVP

OK, now here is the curious thing.Upon futher investigation I foundI CAN transfer large files if I am on the Vista machine and open up the public folder there, and copy the file into the W7 public folder. Then I can go on the Windows 7 machine and access the file, no problem. I transferred a 2.90 GB file this way. So there is a (temporary) work-around. Maybe someone who has two W7 machines can test futher. How do I go about giving feedback to Microsoft? Are they not monitoring these chats?

I had WinXP SP3 and Windows7 RC on my VMWare. I`m to have trouble with network. I can copy any file from XP into public directory on Windows7. And in Windows7 I can`t copy any file from XP machine by network bigger then ~ 1mb. Network work very slowly p.s.: sorry for my English
