Help, I can't upgrade Programs!
I was refered here from this thread: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistasecurity/thread/7c2a1dbf-966d-4234-a16a-d457d5eefed9 I have Vista Ultimate x64 I can't upgrade programs. I'm getting dialog box messages that report that I don't have permission to make the changes to some of the registry keys that require modification. I'm a local and network administrator. I've gone into RegEdit and it will not let me delete the problem keys. It will not let me change the permissions on those keys either. It doesn't matter if I log in as follows, I get the same results: · Local Administrator · Myself, i.e. my usual network log-in (I have local and network adminstrator rights) · Network Administrator Also, I can't create a new user account with any rights of any sort (that was suggested as a work around) This is keeping me from upgrading just about any program. iTunes, Flash and some others. This is becoming a bigger problem as time wears on, I really need some help. If you're on a domain network, you may be facing Group Policy restrictions or other global network limitations. It may or may not have anything to do with the local PC (except to the extent that its policies may have been altered by the network or established by pre-configured imaging software). It's hard to know without more information about how the network is configured, how the computers are setup to work on the network and in general, and much more. I suggest you speak to the senior Systems Administrator to see is he/she can help (or explain), but in the meantime you can try the following to see if you can resolve this without making changes to the network or to the configured policies. Per the link Idid the following: I logged into the local computer's administrator account.(KAUAI\Administrator) I checked the Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Computer Management-Local Users and Groups. "Administrator" is active. I rebooted and held F8 and logged in as KAUAI\Administrator in Safe Mode. In theory I should now be logged in the HAA right? I went into REGEDIT and tried to delete the problem keys. No Luck. It won't let me change permissions on the problem keys so that I can delete the problem keys.... I was logged in locally in Safe Mode WITHOUT Networking. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it would be impossible to have any network influences right? I also tried logging in as "KAUAI\administrator" (all lower case) and it worked without a password. I presume that "Administrator" is different from "administrator". When I try to change the permissions and type in administrator, it insists that the user is KAUAI\Administrator when I "check names" and I end up with the same frustrating results.... (KAUAI is the local machine). Any suggestions from here?

For kicks, try to create a new user in the admin group. Log off then back in with that account.
