Help! Internet explorer windows 7 vista trys to send local domain when using windows authentication
Hello Community this is my first post, I couldnt find the answer anywhere and thought here would be my best chance for one. Please forgive the category choice as i wasnt sure exactly where it fit. my issue is: we have a website ( not internal to our domain) that uses windows authentication and its using the local NT user database on the web server. when we go to the site we get prompted for credentials, like normal but it takes forever to log in and then times out downloading half of the images. I checked everything server side, an all was ok. what i found is that it has to do with the " DOMAIN: LOCAL " underneath the username and PWD in windows 7. If i put in server\username it works perfectly also firefox chrome work perfectly. it is exclusive to IE on windows 7, here are all the methods i tried:XP IE7 worksXP IE8 works2008DC works 2008noDC Doesnt work7 firefox works7 chrome works (includes vista on all)7vista IE 7 or 8 doesnt work Also if you notice i mentioned 2008 domain controller, im not sure how but when i go to the site with IE on the server it gives the classic windows authentication box, which is why it works it doesnt try to specify the domain. I read somewhere to try and take off the " enable windows authentication " in the advanced tab and that did seem to make a difference but through out the whole time i noticed whenever i put in "username" then remember password. it would always automatically assume i wanted to use " domain\username " when ever i returned to the site. Is there any way to have windows 7 / vista not try to include the Domain when going to outside web sites, i would realy not want to give out the server name if i could especially when it works fine with every other browser just not the win 7 IE combination. Thanks for any assistance.

I suggest you temporary disable the antivirus programs on Windows 7 computers. If the issue persists, please open IE, click Tools->Manage Add-ons. Disable all add-ons that are from your security programs. If the issue still occurs, follow the steps below to reset IE settings. 1. Click Start, please type “inetcpl.cpl” (without quotation marks) in the Start Search bar and press Enter to open the Internet options window.2. Switch to the Advanced tab.3. Click the "Reset Internet Explorer Settings" button.4. Click Reset to confirm the operation.5. Click Close when the resetting process has finished.6. Uncheck the "Enable third-party browser extensions" option in the Settings box.7. Click Apply, click OK. If it does not work either, you may try to following method. 1. In Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the Tools menu.2. On the Security tab, click Trusted sites.3. Click Sites.4. In the Add this Web site to this zone box, type the address for the licensing server. If the server (or your computer) is not configured to use SSL, click to clear the Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone check box.5. Click Add, and then click OK.6. Click OK. If the above suggestions do not help, I suggest you turn off Protected Mode in IE.Arthur Xie - MSFT
