Help! I've lost all my system tools, except for Accessability.
I've been doing a lot of work to remove unwanted stuff from my hard drive so I don't want to restore and have to do it all over again! I was using the Windows Live Clean Up Center and I think that's when the tools disappeared (it required me to install some ActiveX controls, etc.) I'm using XP home edition SP3. Can I recover these system tools (especially disk cleanup and disk defragmenter) without having to do a complete restore?2 people need an answerI do too

Locate your Windows XP installation CD. If you don't have one, you'll need to locate a directory on your system that's named"i386" (without the quotes). This directory may be on a hidden partition on your hard drive. Go to Start, then to Run, and type in "SFC.EXE /SCANNOW" (without the quotes - and with a space between the SFC.EXE and the /SCANNOW). The press Enter. The program may (or it may not) ask you for your Windows XP installation CD - please insert it at the prompt. If it doesn't ask you for the CD this means that it wasn't necessary to replace any files. In the event the the system asks you for the CD, you must visit Windows Update immediately after the scan is completed (Please note that there won't be any confirmation dialog - the program will just exit without telling you anything). If this doesn't repair the problem with your system other troubleshooting procedures are required. If you do not have your disc there is another way to run sfc scannow depending on the level of your computer skills. You could also do a system restore to see if that helps if you do not have the disc. Sometimes deciding which battle to fight is the toughest battle of all…..
