Help!
I was setting up a computer with Windows 7, and a program asked me to restart. Now it won't accept the log in password I created. I hadn't reached the reset disk part yet. What can I do? Thanks in advance if someone has an answer.

Also, this was a gift given to me by a friend over a year ago that I had sitting in my closet because I was happy with my other Dell and XP. No warranty or tech support.

I know this thread looks, sounds suspicious, but I recieved this via fed-ex, have the Dell packing slip, plastic protectors still on the face of the computer, service code, tag, mfgr date.....just poor judgement on my part. Should have hooked it up a long time ago.

Should have hooked it up a long time ago. Use the Dell Recovery system, and start again (read the manual?) Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed Sloth

How do I log in as a user.....if it won't accept my password??? from my link.... Step 3 1 Turn on the computer. 2 As the computer starts, press <F8> on the keyboard until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears on the screen. 3 Press the <Down Arrow> on the keyboard to select Repair Your Computer on the Advanced Boot Options menu, and then press <Enter>. 4 Specify the language settings that you want, and then click Next. 5 Log in as a user who has administrative credentials, and then click OK. 6 Click Dell Factory Image Restore. 7 In the Dell Factory Image Restore window, click Next. 8 Click to select the Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition check box. 9 Click Next. The computer is restored to the default factory configuration. 10 When the restore operation is completed, click Finish to restart the computer. The software is now installed as it was when the computer was first received. Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed Sloth

Let me try again. We were looking at different steps :) <sigh> This is bl**dy stupid Dell is about the only manufacturer who doesnt provide a recovery system that can be reached without logging in. In that case, forget everything I said. :) With any luck the system came with a set of Recovery Disks use those. If none came with the system, you can order a set direct from Dell for a modest fee. No problem, and I do appreciate your help. I called Dell last night, gave them the express service code, and ordered the disks. They said the disks were like $50, and talked me into tech support that guaranteed a fix for $80. Total came to $139.65 I think it was, but I'll just chalk that up to bad judgement on my part, and I get a $500 tower for $139.65. Lol. Thanks again.

Not too bad a deal but Id have been tempted to tell them what they could do with their guaranteed fix :) Good Luck! Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed Sloth
