Perhaps there is a problem with a fan or the memory. If you have another computer, you can test the memory. If the fans stop working, then the whole computer can crash. Maybe there is dust in the computer that is causing it to stop the fans.vader95 Windows 95-7 office 97-2010 Ubuntu 9.10-10.10

When I first start up the computer the fans appear to work fine ... I go into the bios page but within 15 secs it cuts out. If i restart the fans run ok, the computer stays on, but i just get a blank screen.

I have cleaned the fans and they appear to be working ok, when the computer is first started i can get to thebios page for about 15secs before it shuts down. when i restart, the fans stay on, the computer stays on, but i get a blank screen. I then have to disconnect the power and start again.

To me it sounds like your memory is damaged. Like i said, if you have a second computer with the same type of memory, it is easy to see if it works.vader95 Windows 95-7 office 97-2010 Ubuntu 9.10-10.10

There aren't any diagnostics lights on the computer? It might be a processor issue. Or, even yet, do you know if there were any other hardware changes?vader95 Windows 95-7 office 97-2010 Ubuntu 9.10-10.10

when you do remove the hard drive, you might want to put in a bootable cdrom so you can see if it boots. If this was happening while it was in the other person's possession, i don't think this could be it, but is still worth a shot. Good idea Saurabh.vader95 Windows 95-7 office 97-2010 Ubuntu 9.10-10.10

There are no diagnostics lights unfortunately. To my knowledge the only hardware change was the drive unit exchange, after it crashed.

The only other thing i can think of is to start taking pieces out one by one and testing them. This can be rather boring, though.vader95 Windows 95-7 office 97-2010 Ubuntu 9.10-10.10
