Identical issue with Samsung desktop using Windows 7. Keep reading about "Print Spooler", I have "Spooler" file only. I get it working and up. The next thing I know my wife is telling me that none of the network printers are showing....AGAIN.
Just to recap problem:
- Printers are missing
- Try to add Printer in "Printers amnd Devioces" and recieve "Windows can't open Add Printer. The local print spooler service is not runnning. Restart spooler or machine"
- Went to SERVICE window to find "Print Spooler" and only found NAME: "Spooler" DESCRIPTION: <Failed to Read Description. Error Code 2> STARTUP: Automatic
- Opened properties.
- On GENERAL Tab Clicked "Start" - Msg "Windows could not start the spooler on Local Computer. Error 2: The system could not find the local file specified"
- On LOG ON Tab: Local System Account is selected "Allow service to interact with Desktop" is checked.
- There is nothing in the Spool/Printer folder
- The spoolsv.exe.org file the only file existing....the exe.org file is different from the .exe
The spoolsv.exe file missing. I will have to restart and in order to reload the damned printers. Is someone from MS going to come up with an answer, patch or fix for this or do we just go buy Apple Computers next time.

Funny you had this issue because we have been having this issue with multiple users at our company. We have tried everything from loaded Vista or XP drivers (or running the installation in compatibility mode), downloading drivers straight from the Windows
Update Catalog, specifically isolating drivers with Print Management, updating the printer's firmware, etc. I came across an article last month that said something about how Microsoft changed the way the spooler works in Windows 7 and pushes most print jobs
through an isolated printer spooler rather than just the regular print spooler. Its a simple gpedit and so far (fingers crossed) it works for us. Basically it changes the way print jobs are spooled back to the way it was in XP aka the good ole fashion way.
I think this method works very well with older print drivers that have a problem recognizing printer isolation and even some of the newer drivers that get confused.


I disabled this gpo: Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Printers /
Execute print drivers in isolated processes

I enabled this gpo: Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Printers /
Override print driver execution compatibility setting reported by print driver.
