Have a wireless card...why does computer only want to do dial-up?
I have a laptop with a wireless card and I can just walk into a place that has a wifi signal, click on the tray icon for the network, and it will display all nearby networks and their respective signal strength.I just bought a desktop from a friend. In my basement I have another desktop that has a wireless router, and my laptop can connect to it just fine. This new desktop has an antenna on the back (bottom slot, and YES the LED is lit, dimly, and I recently had the tower open and the ribbon is plugged in) and in the start menu there is an icon for Intel ProSet...these things would indicate to me that I OUGHT to be able to connect via wi-fi. But when I click on the tray icon for networks, or when I go to "Network Connections" in control panel, all I get is a stupid list with 3 choices: Broadband, LAN, and MSN - no "wireless networks" list. No matter which of these I click on I get a window popping up that says "Dial-up Connection" on top. Set-up wizard and "create a new connection" in control panel are the most user-unfriendly things I've ever used and don't seem to do anything at all, except give me one more worthless choice in the aforementioned stupid list. How do I get my computer to look for a wireless signal, or even offer that option to me? Please help.1 person needs an answerI do too

Are you sure that antenna is a WiFi card? It might be a broadband wireless adapter that wants to connect directly to Verizon or AT&T or somebody. What's the brand/model of the computer?-B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook
