Has anyone successfully created an ad hoc network connection?
Following steps precisely as those stated here:http://www.kombitz.com/2009/02/09/windows-7-how-to-create-an-ad-hoc-network/I have been unable to create an ad hoc connection on any of my computers (3 laptops). Does windows 7 remove support for ad hoc networks? Thanks for any/all help!dg

On your laptops, do you have accounts with passwords? If not, then you will not be able to see or access them. Since Vista, to successfully enable workgroup/home networking, you must have password enabled accounts.

What do you mean by ad hoc?

I tested setting up an ad-hoc network between 2 systems running Windows 7.I first tested using a crossover ethernet cable, this worked fine except in order for me to share files between the 2 systems I needed to disable the firewall on each system for them to be able to see each other. I probably just needed to allow access through the firewall by adding a new exception but was lazy for that :-)I then set up an ad-hoc network between the 2 systems using 2 wireless network cards, same result, worked but again I needed to disable the firewall on both systems. So Windows 7 definitely still has the ability to create ad-hoc networks, just may take a bit of fiddling about with :-)
