Has a recent update caused a 'spelling error' in W8.1 Photo Viewer GUI ?

I noticed yesterday (after applying the latest two optional updates) that Photo Viewer has a spelling error on the GUI print screen. Instead of 'Fit picture to frame' it reads as Fram. Another 8.1 user with an up to date system has confirmed they are seeing the same whereas someone else who has yet to apply the latest updates is seeing it correctly spelt.

Hi Mooly01,

What is the system language of the machine?

I have checked the symptom from my machine and it shows normally. If it is possible, please post the update KB number you have installed here, we will make a test again.

Hi, and thanks for replying. They would be KB3075853 and KB2976978. Language and setup is standard UK (clean install of W8.1 last year) and all updates are installed to present date (no failures). I print quite regularly, at least every week or so, and as such I'm sure I would have spotted this error if it had been present before. What I'm getting at is that if it were not one of these two, then it would be one very close in date.

Post#2 here confirms another 8.1 user seeing the same.

Spelling error

Hi Mooly01,

I have installed the two updates on my Windows 8.1 Enterprise machine and it didn't show the symptom as yours.

Since this issue won`t impact the usage of the Photo Viewer application, we could ignore it temporarily. If you are interested in looking for the culprit, we could try to perform a system restore to a previous normal point and install these updates one by one to find out the culprit.

Best regards

I think I have found the reason and I think it shows the foibles of our perception (mine !).

I have Acronis disk images and so I restored back to July month end... and then all the way back to April... because the error was still present. The reason seems to be me having selected 125% as a scaling factor for the display. If I revert to 100% (default) I see the full word 'frame'. If I set a custom scaling of 124% I see half of the missing letter 'e' as in the picture here. Go to 125% and it is fully missing. So it seems a recent update has not been the culprit......

Hi Molly01,

I am glad you have found the culprit by yourself and thanks for updating.
