HP Wireless Assistent .NET 2.0 x64 JIT error
hi there:) I've got a HP Compaq 6710b laptop with Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x64 wich gives me everytime HP Wireless Assistent starts a .NET Framework JIT error. Before the laptop was reinstalled, it was running Windows XP without problems. After we installed the laptop with our Windows 7 company image using MDT2012 the .NET error appeared. thus far we've installed tens of laptops without any errors/problems. This laptop is the first one with this error. Things i've already tried: 1. uninstall/install HP Wireless Assistent - error stays 2. Uninstall/install .NET framework 3.5 SP1 - error stays 3. Install .NET framework 4 - error stays 4. Installing .NET Framework 2.0 x64 - Installer says that this product is already installed. 5. repairing .NET Framework 2.0 x64 - no repair function found. .NET Framework 2.0 not listed in Controlpanel->Software 6. uninstalling .NET Framework 2.0 x64 - not applicable sinces .net 2.0 is not listed in Controlpanel->Software 7. Installed another laptop (different model) with our W7 company image - Error disappeared and HP WA is functioning properly. 8. Installed laptop with clean Windows 7 (no apps, only HP WA) - error appears 9. tested the Wifi module with the Windows implementation. - no errors. can connect with wireless networks. So it's likely no hardware problem. 10. sfc /scannow - no problems found I'm out of solutions guys. It's obviously a .NET problem, but i can't install/repair/uninstall .NET Framework 2.0 x64. Google doesn't give me much solutions either. Help is much appriciated:) Thanks in advance. Here is the error log it shows me (sorry, it's in Dutch): Zie het einde van dit bericht voor meer informatie over het aanroepen van JIT-foutopsporing (Just In Time) in plaats van dit dialoogvenster. ************** Tekst van uitzondering ************** System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: De index valt buiten het bereik. 1. Follow the procedure described here http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2006/05/30/611355.aspx http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2010/05/13/10012778.aspx 2. Reinstal .NET Framework 3. Check in the HP support forum if there is specific problem. 4. Do not compare XP /w 7, they differ quite a bit. Rgds Milos

Hi Milos, Thank you for your reply. To answer your questions/suggestions: 1. setupverifier said .NET 2.0 SP2, .NET 3.0 SP2, .NET 3.5 SP1 all of them installed. However none of the versions is listed in controlpanel->Software Only .NET 3.5SP1 is listed as a Windows Feature. .NET cleanup tool only detects .NET 1.1 and .NET 4.0. Other versions where not selecteble. The log detects 2.0 SP2 but log doesn't say that 2.0 SP2 is removed. i only see 1.1 and 4 mentioned. i also see still the folder c:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50.727... 2. Reinstall of .NET 3.5 SP1 does not resolve the problem, i've tried it couple of times. reinstallation of .NET 2.0 SP2 can's proceed because the setup detects that the software is already installed. Uninstalling .NET 2.0 SP2 can't be done because it's not listed in controlpanel->Software 3. As i said before, google doesn't return much helpfull results. The same post i posted here, i've also posted on the HP support forums. No answer yet. 4. I know that XP and W7 are not compareble. But i wanted to depicture that with the same laptop, HP Wireless Assistent worked on XP. Also another laptop installed with the same W7 image doesn't give me this problem.

Hi, Firstly, please let us know the following: 1. Are these laptops same model? 2. Do they have the same wireless adapter? Meanwhile, please download and install HP Wireless Assistant for the special laptops model and see how it works. Installing and Using HP Wireless Assistant (Windows 7, Vista, XP) Hope this helps. Hi Jeremy, Thanks for your suggestions. To answer those: 1. No the laptop models are not the same: The model i've problems with is a HP Compaq 6710b (the first laptop of this model i deploy though.). the model i've already deployed a couple of times, and which don't give any problems is a HP Compaq Elitebook 6930p. 2. The Compaq 6710b has a Intel Pro Wireless 3945ABG adapter, the Elitebook 6930p has a Intel WifiLink 5100 AGN adapter. I've downloaded the HP Wireless Assistent from the HP support site, choosing the compaq 6710b as model and installed it. but after a reboot the .NET Error message reappears.... The HP Wireless Assistent for both models is indeed different. The SP#####.exe packages for the models have different numbers. Things i've tried in the meantime: reinstall the laptop with W7 company image without HP WA - installing HP WA manually. error keeps appearing. reinstall the laptop with W7 clean image (no updates, no applications, etc) - installing HP WA manually. error keeps appearing.

Hi Roel_85, Thanks for the reply. I notice that issue persists even reinstalling the laptop with a clean image. Is the image same as a retail one? If not, you can try to install using a retail Windows 7 installation media and see how it works. In addition, have you installed the driver for Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection before install HP Wireless Assistant? If not, please download and install the driver from Intel and test the issue again. If issue persists, it seems like the issue is related to HP Wireless Assistant. It is recommended to contact HP for help. Hope this helps. Jeremy Wu TechNet Community Support

Hi Jeremey, Thanks for the reply. The image i'm using is the ISO downloaded from the licensing portal from microsoft. After that i mounted the ISO on the MDT2012 server, and did an OS import with MDT2012, which is not more then just copy the contents of the ISO file to a specified directory on the MDT server. I'm going to try install the laptop from CD burned from the ISO During the deployment, the drivers are installed automaticly before any applications are installed. As i said earlier, i've also posted this issue on the HP forums, but nobody responded yet.

Hi, Have you checked that if the issue is related to the driver? Please install the latest driver from Intel and see how it works. If issue persists, due to .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 ( it includes .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.0 SP1) is built-in Windows 7, we cannot remove or reinstall it, Im afraid that we may have to wait for the response from HP. Hope this helps. Jeremy Wu TechNet Community Support

Hi, I've to dissapoint you. I've downloaded a Win7 Ent SP1 from the microsoft licensing portal, installed the laptop with it from cd. downloaded and installed model specific HP WA but the problem persist. even after installing the latest Intel Pro Wireless drivers as you suggested. I'm almost going to think it's a hardware problem, but the wifi just works with the windows implementation.

Hi, Based on my understanding, it seems that the issue is caused by HP Wireless Assistant itself. Therefore, we may have to wait for HP suggestions. Thanks for your understanding. Jeremy Wu TechNet Community Support
