HP TouchSmart computer in KIOSK mode... want to restrict KIOSK user to not access USB ports, HOTKEYS, or make any changes to the computer.
I currently have it set to automatically log on as KIOSK user and auto start Opera in KioskMode and have disabled CTRL ALT DEL keys to allow access to task manager... only LOG OFF and SWITCH USER are available. Since it is a touch screen we are not having a mouse/keyboard attached (except for us doing updates)... but there is a button (hotkey) on the HP dx9100 that will open up HP software and it could accidentally be activated. I need access as an administrator, but want to lock this USER to only stay within the OPERA browser and not access even MY COMPUTER, DOCUMENTS, ETC (already adjusted START MENU & DESKTOP & have no access allowed to Task Manager), but I can see some power user in our hotel trying to "Beat the Geek" using Hotkeys with his own USB or wireless keyboard (disabled onscreen keyboard option already too). This is currently being run on Vista 64 bit Business but we are upgrading to Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate/Business soon.1 person needs an answerI do too

I would strongly recommend that you use software intended to provide this kind of usage model--I.e. KIOSK, rather than trying to emulate it by locking down the OS in various ways. Microsoft's SteadyState tool is designed to do just what you want, I believe. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/sharedaccess/default.mspx I'm not certain that this tool supports the 64 bit version of Vista, nor how it works with Windows 7 at this point--but this is the tool I would use if I were in your position. Thank you! I will try it in Windows 7... hopefully it will work there as well too. I appreciate the advice.
