HP Laserjet 2100 cannot install as shared cpu on Win 7 64 bit
I have HP Laserjet 2100 shared on a vista computer
works great with the other computers (vista and xp)
I have a laptop with win 7 64 bit trying to include int he network... I cannot get it to install the shared printer
I have tried many times.. downloaded MS and HP drivers
at this point
I can click add a printer
click shared printer HP 2100 PCL 5 OR PCL 6 (tried both :)
and go to windows dir system32 folder
and then get this error
cannot connect to printer
operation failed with error 0x00000214
HELP???
if I use the right drivers....the drivers from HP ---it says they are NOT the right ones
Checked access to the vist machine from Win 7 64 bit
yes I can remote log into the Vista computer-- so the comptuer is fully shred and accessible from the laptop...
spent hours testing this
Ideas? solutions??

That's because it's trying to use the 32-bit drivers with a 64-bit OS. There are several solutions to this, the one I prefer is to install it as a local printer* via the LPR/LPD protocol (Print Services for Unix). This would require opening up
TCP port 515 on the firewalls of both machines as well.
You could also install it as a local printer* using the built-in Windows TCP/IP printing protocol (very similar to LPR).
Or you could just install the 64-bit drivers on the 32-bit Vista machine and let Windows 7 find them there.
*By local printer I mean that Windows 7 only thinks it's a local printer, it's actually still connected to the Vista machine.
