HP LaserJet 3050 Scan broken in Windows 7
I've got a new laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit installed. I connected the old Laserjet 3050 all-in-one unit and it detected and installed the Windows drivers. It prints fine. However, the scanner function doesn't work. Most of the time it will start scanning, and then fail. Sometimes it will seem to complete the scan, but the image I receive is only about the top 2 inches of the page. I cannot get a full scan. I've checked the HP website and they don't offer drivers or tools for this product for Windows 7. When I use Device Manager and try to update the drivers there is an update available over the one that was auto-installed, but if I install that update things seem to get worse, so I'm using the Microsoft Windows driver for the hardware. Any ideas on how to get reliable scanning from this hardware on Windows 7? Thanks!Thomas Dietrich

To start with you must realize the drivers offered by Windows Update are minimally functional drivers from the manufacturer, in this case HP. Those drivers may or may not actually be Windows 7 drivers, but probably either Vista or XP drivers that have been found to be somewhat functional in Windows 7. You might have better luck downloading the latest Vista fully functional driver for scanning and printing @ http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=1140778&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=1140783&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=2093 Uninstall the current drivers and then install the Vista driver in the "Vista Compatibility mode" Microsoft does not write drivers nor utility software for any third party hardware.
