Occasionally, for unknown reasons, it is impossible to create a persistent network share in Windows 7 (I am running Win7 x64 Pro with a Workgroup, not using a domain server). After creating the network share correctly from Windows Explorer and clicking Save Credentials, it will not be persistent after a reboot. You can even verify the correct Windows Certificate in User Credentials, and all appears correct. Yet on a reboot the system will ask for the credentials again every time. After much frustrating trial-and-error, I have found that the following steps somehow solve the problem: 1. Go into Windows Explorer and make sure the errant network share is connected. Then right click on it and select Disconnect. 2. Go into Control Panel, User Accounts, Manage Your Credentials, Windows Credentials, and click on the share which doesn’t remain persistent. Click on Remove from Vault. 3. Close everything and reboot. 4. After reboot, go to the Computer icon on the desktop, right click, and select Map Network Drive 5. Follow the steps to create the network share, and tick Reconnect at Logon 6. Click Finish, then supply the logon credentials on the next screen. 7. Be sure to tick Save These Credentials 8. Finish and Exit For whatever reason, following these steps will create a persistent network share even after reboot. It seems that using Map Network Drive from the Computer icon on the desktop somehow works differently than just creating the credentials directly in User Accounts or by creating a network share from Windows Explorer. At least it worked for me. I should note that using the Net Use command will also work, as others have noted. You can create a batch file and put it into the Startup Folder, and it will remap the network share after every reboot. However, this is clearly a workaround, while the method described above works directly. I hope it works for you.
