HELP Wireless connection not connecting on Windows 7
I got Windows 7 Home premium for christmas, And I installed it today, I selected the option to start fresh (all my progs & files will go), So it went ok But I just couldn't connect to the internet, I have a Belkin G USB Adapter. I've tried everything, I'm not bad at computers but this REALLY IS PUZZLING me, in the corner there is the bars but with a yellow star over it, if you click it, it comes up with networks but when I click mine which is DLINK_WIRELESS, and enter my pass code it just says 'Windows was unable to connect to DLINK_WIRELESS' I've gone through all the troubleshooting but nothing seems to fix and work. I've also gone downstairs unplugging & reset my router. I've been on every link on google for help but nothing just seems to work, so now im on my laptop just trying to look for answers... Please help, thank you! :)

Is the signal strong? Is the router using DHCP address assignment? Otherwise, if it's static, you'll have to set up the IP/subnet/gateway/DNS settings.

On your computer, is this through the Windows wireless manager or you using some third-party connection utility, e.g., Asus, HP, Cisco, etc? Either way, does it display an IP address? If you don't see one, run ipconfig /all from a command prompt and make sure the wireless card has all the settings I mentioned above. Also, the router should be the same (192.168.1.1) from any computer once it has a set address.

My router is a D-LINK one and when I enter http://192.168.1.1 it shows me this http://i48.tinypic.com/8vnu4x.jpg this is what shows on my computer when i enter ipconfig /all http://i48.tinypic.com/2dsh16f.png

What does the D-LINK web page show under DHCP?Also to clarify, I mean is there any wireless software installed that helps you connect to networks, or just what's built into Windows?

Ryan, thanks for your help, But I have to go if you leave another message I will come back to it in the morning :) I hope this gets sorted

It won't work on the computer till it gets a connection, but it will be the same IP.Go ahead and disable the wired (Local Area Connection/Realtek adapter) in Network and Sharing Center -> Change adapter settings. Also make sure any wireless adapter switches are turned on and the LED lit up (usually green/blue for on and red/yellow/orange for off).EDIT: Also, in the D-LINK administration, see if there's a log file of what's going on when you connect.

There is a nice, short tutorial on setting up a Wireless Profile in Windows 7 here: How To Setup A Wireless Profile On Windows 7 Also another possibility, posted by Gloria Boyer MSFT Moderator: Hi folks. If you're using an 802.11N router, there might be issues with WPA-TKIP security. I've been told that the final version of 802.11N dropped support for WPA-TKIP. Try switching to WPA2-AES and see if that helps. Rich

The log view is under Status tab (page 37). Also, there's no router-side configuration for TKIP/AES for WPA (no WPA2) (page 24) and it only supports 802.11b/g.ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/dsl_routers_modems/dsl-g624t/dsl-g624t_manual.pdf

Ok, must be a client-side problem then. Go ahead and uninstall the device from Device Manager by selecting it and hitting delete. Then take the device out and plug it back in.
December 27th, 2009 3:32pm

Ok now it has come up in device manager under network adapters with a yellow triangle with a '!' in it, it didn't show that before? Then when it installs itself it says X Failed

It can recognize it now, and where back to square one i let it pick from a list of device drivers then it give me 2 options Belkin Version 5.1089.6012007 [01/06/2007 and Belkin 62.1176.812.2009 [12/08/2009] the 2007 one worked and the 2009 one makes it 'Unknown device'

I had similar problem. Windows 7 latest RC + DLINK DWL 510 (wifi card) + DLINK DIR 320 (wifi router). If it was connected over DHCP - I could loose the connectivity without a reason, strong signal full bars, but no network access. If the IP was static, the gateway could dissapeared without any reason untill you manually fill it in again.Nothing helps untill I've obtained full final version of Windows 7. The issue is fixed now. I suffered almoast a month.

Ok now it has come up in device manager under network adapters with a yellow triangle with a '!' in it, it didn't show that before? Then when it installs itself it says X Failed Verify is it referring to the wireless Belkin G USB Adapter or the ethernet. Once you find out is referring to which, install the drivers for it, alternatively try windows update and let it detect and assign driver for the network adapter, get this sort out first before we go further, who know it might just be a driver issue since you mention there's a yellow exclamation mark at device manager>network adapter

Well all is a valid parmater for addr, but try the IP instead:netsh int ip delete address name="Wireless Network Connection 2" addr=86.130.112.9If the other command doesn't work again, try connecting to the network again. If it doesn't connect, hit troubleshoot and let it try renew the IP from DHCP.

Since is fixed, as i mention earlier on ensure both the passphrase and ssid is the same for both router as well as your comps wireless setting. Ensure there's no third party firewall like ZA, Norton etc. If all else fail, i would suggest you to reset your router back to default setting (without any security setting as in passphrase or ssid) and use a ethernet cable to logged into the router config page, next make sure your Belkin wireless is detected save and exit the router config page and next try connecting to your wireless again, this time using wireless and if everything went smoothly, you should jolly well know the issue is due to the passphrase and ssid setting

@Daniel: We've checked the router; it's seems to be a client-side problem as the router isn't even noticing his computer connecting or authenticating. And for some reason the wireless connection has a public IP...
