HELP.. windows 8 64bit 're-activation
I need help with my windows 8 (64-bit) re-activation.  I bought a new laptop (asus a45v) with preinstalled windows 8 64 bit(single language build 9200),,  i activated windows and updated it. everything was fine until  I installed this stupid antivirus then my laptop hanged,  the antivirus was not compatible with my version of windows(or any other windows). so i recovered it --refresh your pc without affecting your files--  afterwards, everything seems back to normal, except my windows was not activated. it seems that i lost my activation when I 'refreshed' it. pls help me on how to recover my activation.

Have you rebooted the machine? Try that.

If no then...

Top right on Metro Screen+>select search charm=>search SYSTEM=>select PC info=>there you will see the activation status=>you can re-enter the activation code from the sticker on the computer there.

or

Switch to Desktop, right-click in the low left corner and select system. There you will see Windows Activation status. Next to it is a change product key. You can use that to re-enter the product key from the sticker on your computer.

What "stupid antivirus" did you install?  Did you not check for compatibility before installing?  Did your Asus not come with an AV package installed (most OEM's normally provide at least a trial)?

Anyway, since Windows 8 came OEM, you should just be able to a normal activation.  If that does not work open an administrative command prompt (right-click --> Run as administrator) and type slmgr /ato.  For all activation options type slmgr /?.

I did check for compatibility before i install, and i've read all those 'editor recommendations' that that antivirus was the best. unfortunately, it was not.

i can't seem to find what you're telling me. there is no re-enter activation code option.

is there any other way?

If all else fails you should be able to use the built in Asus recovery partition to restore your laptop to it's original state when it left the factory. http://support.asus.com/Troubleshooting/detail.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=G73Sw&os=&no=1775
