That is only hidden the pop up from the tray but doesn't stop the complain when you open security center and its annoying that if I have a McAfee and its show I didn't.. T_T sounds like cheating

Hi, This feature provide a notification to ask customer to install antivirus software. It seems Windows Vista does not detect the third-party antivirus. If you have ensured the antivirus software has been installed, you can ignore it safely. Also, you can try to reinstall software and update software to the latest to see if it do the trick. If this problem still remain, we recommend to contact third-party manufacturer to see if any update at their sides, which let Windows Vista detect it. Hope this helps.

Surely there is a solution to this. Here is another indication of it happening a year ago - http://blogs.chron.com/techblog/archives/2007/04/windows_vista_is_lying_to_me_1.htmlI don't have time to document all the times it's out there, but search - it's out there a lot. I tried the solution of renaming the repository, but it didn't work for me. It's not just McAfee - Symantec and AVG too. Surely, surely, Microsoft didn't produce this product to ONLY recognize the Microsoft anti-virus program? You/they should at LEAST protect themselves from making it look that way.Thank youWendell_F

Hi, I face the same problem on my Dell Inspiron laptop. McAfee was pre-installed. It has managed to work fine for about 15 days, and just today, I noticed this error saying, Antivirus S/W not detected. Like many, I too thought it was McAfee's fault, however, when i chatted with a Mcafee tech-support agent, he suggested, its a Windows Repository folder not being able to update, he advised me to speak to Microsoft, however, when I tried the Microsoft tech support, they suggested, since it was pre-installed, must refer to Hardware manufacturer. I feel like a shuttle in a badminton match! I've tried renaming the repository file, even deleting it, still the problem persists. I was shocked to see the that there are so many problems with Windows and 3rd party security S/W. Seriously, Open Source S/W rocks.. Windows.. less said the better.

If MS tries to sell me McAfee with the very next button, then a MS employee should not dismiss this shameful bug with "it's third party software". MS has a bad enough security reputation, already, don't make MS look for a new country to out-source their "support" to. Just get someone on a higher tier of support to enter the bug in the real bug reporting system.I just exit MS Security Center after a moment's review, as McAfee is pretty good about telling me if it is not working right, or if a firewall is off. You see, security is their only business, so they take it seriously. Now, if I could only stop MS from telling me it's ok to pull the C drive now! One friend is raggin me to get a MAC. I should go see how nice the Linux SW looks this year.

Also see this thread at the McAfee forums requesting a fix for VirusScan 8.5i to work with Windows Security Center "VSE 8.5i P8 on Vista SP2 causing Windows Security Center warning due to old API " . VirusScan 8.7i Patch 2 does work, unknown solutions for consumer versions of McAfee.
