Group Policy and Home Drives
I have two problems that may or may not be related. First, when logging in, a GP for Folder Redirection is applied to redirect my documents to H:\Documents, which is my AD Home Drive. It fails saying that H:\Documents cannot be found. Second, when logging off, I have a GP Logoff script that writes current mapped drives to a txt document on H: It works fine on XP, but on Win 7 it says "Path Not Found", meaning the H: drive is not available. When is the Home Drive mounted and unmounted during win7 login and logoff? Also, is there a way to force these GP's in an order so that the H: drive is available? If they are not related, let me know. Thanks

I have found that the Group Policy for Folder Redirection problem is caused because the user was not the Owner of the folders. By setting them as the owner, it will redirect. I don't understand why this would matter. Could someone please explain why there is a limitation set based on folder ownership, even when the user has modify privs to that same folder. I have done some research and found the solution to my second problem. Seems that UAC is causing issues for my account. I had to add the EnableLinkedConnections per this article http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;937624. My only concern is am I opening up potential security issues by doing this. Please help clarify the issues if you could. Thanks

Hi, Disabling UAC will lead unexpected security issues; the method you tried is just a workaround and it is not recommended. Since you are using a script, I think you can check the script and make it work well with UAC. If you would like to check or modify your logon script, it is recommended that you go to Scripting Forum for help. In addition, I would like to share the following with you for your reference: Teach Your Apps To Play Nicely With Windows Vista User Account Control Inside Windows 7 User Account Control Meanwhile, regarding Folder Redirection, please also refer to: Recommendations for Folder Redirection Thanks. I realize this a classic, "IKnowYou'reBusyBut....": It's really annoying when you'all repost an entire previous post in repsonse to a clarification or redirect. It's kind of insulting. We're all..., okay, we're mostly professionals here. It's not like people are asking you how to change a toner cartridge--but I bet a lot of us have to take those calls while trying to negotiate a complex migration to Win7. For instance, in the post above, would it not have been just as easy to type, "Try the UAC link, and come back with questions? Thanks."
