Group Policy Security Setting Could Not Be Determined

Hi,

I'm having a problem using the Group Policy Editor in Win8.1 on a Surface Pro 2 and it was suggested on the MS forums to ask my question here. I'm changing the Security Account Lockout threshold. When I click on some of the other choices, under Local Policies, I get an error "group policy security settings that apply to this machine could not be determined".

I searched MS and the internet but couldn't find an answer for Win8, mostly there were links for XP and Win2003.

There is only one account on the PC, the administrator account is disabled. How can I resolve this problem? Is it anything to worry about?

Hi,

Take a try to this command with your admin account to reset permissions of the sdb:

secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb /verbose

Hi,

Apologize for the late reply. What is the situation by now?

Could you please have a share with the PC environment and the whole error messages(Better a screen shot or an event log file)?

With which account that this issue happened? Have you tried to enable the built-in administrator account and check if the issue insists?

If this is related permission, we might take a try to reset permissions under the build-in admin account using Icacls command.

Login with the built-in administrator account, open CMD, then type:

ICACLS  * /reset /t  /c /q

Command line reference: Icacls
