Group Policy Objects not working on Windows Vista
Hi,I have here 2 DCs running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise with Service Pack 2, and most of the workstations running Windows XP, with no problems in applying my GPOs, but recently we added some Vista clients and none of them apply any GPO.Even after installing all updates and Service Pack 1, the problem wasn't solved. Here's my Event Log:Log Name: SystemSource: Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicyDate: 25/06/2008 12:38:23Event ID: 1006Task Category: NoneLevel: ErrorKeywords: User: SYSTEMDescription:The processing of Group Policy failed. Hi, To better understand the issue, please reproduce the issue (restart a Windows Vista machine) and collect the following information: System, Application and Group Policy event log on the Windows Vista machine. After that, please zip and upload the above files to the following space: https://sftasia.one.microsoft.com/choosetransfer.aspx?key=5e28ec59-ea35-4421-a495-0df9287d4437 Password: Ec^S*7ujztbCuj Note: Please drop me a quick note in the current thread to inform me after uploading the file.

I've noticed these same errors on both Vista and Server 2008 machines.

I have this same issue on Windows Vista SP1.I'm trying to use a group policy to add computers to my internal WSUS server but my own laptop won't apply the Computer group policy. User policy is applied without error apparently.Any ideas?Log Name: SystemSource: Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicyDate: 14/10/2008 15:43:55Event ID: 1006Task Category: NoneLevel: ErrorKeywords: User: SYSTEMComputer: ITMGR.!domain-name-removed!.co.ukDescription:The processing of Group Policy failed. Any solutions to this. I've encountered the issue today. My Default and user GPOs are running; but, not other machine GPOs (SCE ...). As a result, my firewall will not start.

Looks like I've solved mine - had it on SBS2008. Looked at hosts file and there was an entry in there for the server. Looked at another SBS2008 server and it didn't have the entry, after removal no more errors so far.

I can confirm ebooyens solution. I had put a hosts entry while troubleshooting an issue with Quickbooks Database Manager, after which this error began occurring. Removing that line (which didn't work for QB anyway), my Group Policy issue was resolved. For those who aren't familiar, the hosts file is found in:C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etcMake sure you don't have any entries that include the server's FQDN or NetBIOS name.
