Group Policy Desktop Background Intermittently Not Working
Hi There, Forgive me for bringing this up again but we’re still having intermittent problems with applying a background to Windows 7 Desktops using Group Policy. We have over 100 Windows 7 laptops deployed in our environment and every so often when a user logs on, instead of having their deployed background they’re shown a solid black background. Restarting the computer resolves this. The way the desktop background is deployed is like this: 1) Logon batch file which runs when the user logs on to copy the wallpaper over to the user’s computer if it doesn’t exist. 2) There is a group policy applied to the parent OU where the user accounts are which then applies the wallpaper. It is setup in the User Configuration\Administration Templates\Desktop\Active Desktop. There is a Microsoft hotfix Kb977944 but all the systems run Windows 7 SP1 which has this fix included. I have also come across an article about deploying a registry key to fix this, but that didn’t make a difference. Is there any other issues that could cause this problem as it is becoming frustrating for the customers. Thanks in advance, David.

Hi, Have you tried the following method to deploy desktop wallpaper? To apply a "Desktop Wallpaper" Group Policy setting, follow these steps: 1. Open the Group Policy Management Console. 2. In the Group Policy Management Console, locate the Group Policy Objects folder, and then select the Group Policy object (GPO) that you have created for the domain users. Note: If you have not created a GPO for the domain users, right-click Group Policy Objects, and then click New to create a GPO for the domain users. 3. Right-click the GPO that you have created for the domain users, and then click Edit to open the GPO. 4. Expand User Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, expand Desktop, and then click Desktop. 5. In the details pane, double-click Desktop Wallpaper. If this issue persists, I suggest you post at Group Policy for further help: Group Policy Forum Hope it helps.
