Group Chat hidden window blocks mouse clicks in top-left corner of screen

Hey guys, I'm not sure if this is the right place to report Group Chat bugs or not, but we're using Office Communicator Server 2007 R2 Group Chat, Version 3.5.6907.0.

The problem is that Group Chat places a hidden window in the top-left corner of the screen, and intermittently it blocks mouse mouse hovers and clicks.  Many people in our office experience this, so it's not just myself.  Closing Group Chat fixes the problem, and when you click Exit on the Group Chat tray icon, you can actually see the "Logging out" window appear where the mouse clicks are being blocked.

Here's a pic showing where the transparent Group Chat box is lying over my Visual Studio app, so I'm unable to click File, Edit, View, or Git.  I used UISpy to find and identify the transparent w

Hi,

It looks like the software conflict causes this issue. Please try to perform a Clean Boot if your pc OS is windows vista or 7:

Many employees in our company experience this issue (around 30 people at least), and we all use different varieties of software.  So it may be a software conflict, but I'm more inclined to believe that it is something else.  Regardless, I'm going to try turning off startup programs and services as you suggested and see if the problem continues.  I'm also formatting my PC in the next two weeks, so I'll see if it still happens after that.  The problem is that this bug is hard to test sinceit is not always present.  Some days I go without experiencing this issue at all, some times it's prominent right when my computer boots up, and some times it does start happening until after I've been using the laptop for a few hours.  I'll do more testing though and see what I can dig up.

I had the exact same problem, which I didn't figure out until I read this post.  Turned off group chat, then restarted it, and the issue isn't happening now.  But has been a consistent problem for two months since I upgraded from XP to W7 Enterprise 64 bit.

So I finally got around to reinstalling my Windows 7 x64 installation and am no longer experiencing this problem.  So while this did fix my issue, I don't think "reinstall your operating system" is a valid (practical) answer :P.  Hopefully somebody else experiencing this problem is better able to diagnose the root problem and how

We have a number of people with the same problem. We can't realistically ask 10 people to rebuild there machines. I don't accept this would necessarily fix the issue anyway. There must be an actual fix for this rather than the clean start cop-outs?

We are seeing this exact same issue.  Closing Lync Group chat fixes the issue.  Not everyone is affected, but enough that it's annoying and I cannot imagine reimaging the computer would be the answer.  I used Process explore to identify the process as being GroupChatConsole.exe.  I've seen the hidden window appear at times (as it is above), you can drag it around and type in the white bar, but no way to kill/end the process without affecting all of group chat.  This window is not always present, but is really annoying once it shows up.

Thanks,

Joe

Another user with the exact issue as described above.  After spending a lot of time troubleshooting the problem I have narrowed down the events that produces the 'hidden window'.  If GroupChatConsole.exe is running and the user locks and then unlocks their computer, this problem occurs.  This would explain why closing and re-opening Group Chat appears to 'fix' the problem.  If the computer is locked and unlocked again though (with Group Chat running), the problem returns. It doesn't matter if the main Group Chat window is open or minimized to the task bar or notification area.

We have tried all the basic troubleshooting such as uninstall/reinstall, reboot, etc.  We even imaged a brand new laptop and migrated the user to the newer model, but problem starting occurring again after a few days.

I love troubleshooting challenging problems, but this is something I have never encountered before... and after tirelessly searching the internet, doesn't seem like many others have, either.  I hope someone else can provide some more insight or clues to permanently fix this problem!

Best Regards,

-J

2012 - And I see this was still not resolved. Such a huge annoying issue. Reopening chat multiple times a day. Brutal!
