Getting the free upgrade from 8 PRo to 8.1
Why in the world am I blocked from getting this in the "Store"
I will be managing a small fleet of pads/tablets so on the very 1st one Iwant to getthe upgrade prior to handing the unit out to the end user... so Itry to go to the store and and it says " I cant
access this using an administrative account"
how much sence does this make ? the hardware is all new..the WIN8 is all new....but they want some "non administrator" to get and install this upgrade ??? any non administrator wil nt have the authority or expertise to do this
and as an administrator Ipersonnlawant to do the upgrade in orderto see what happens and docuemnt so ian proceed on the other 10 units I am deploying
Please stop trying to be like Apple/itunes etc........

The Windows Store is only for users who sign in with a Microsoft (Live) account. It can't be used by a local user account, Administrator or otherwise.

new to this and just following whatever support ican google up
no one mentions "window live account till now" and my problems is that I cant even launch the app let alone be asked to login with my W.L id
I need /want to be able to do admin level stuff as admin dont like the idea of changing how i do sutff for 25 years and now have ot make a "regular user " that will do computer admin activities like i say....
we tried to adopt /intrgrate/use Ipads in our business environment and after 2 years of constant struggle we canned those things a....so I dont like MS trying to emulate Apple

Using the Live account is equivalent to just another account. So you can log out of Windows from the local account and "equivalent" change user/logon as a different user and use the Live account. I do not use Windows 8 in an Enterprise environment and have
no experience of how to manage these types of devices.
I had created a "servicing" Live account that I use only for testing on a system.
Now, concerning upgrading these systems... If they are running Windows 8 Enterprise edition, you can download the 8.1 media from the
VLSC.
With that media you can do an in-place upgrade on the individual systems. If these devices have a different OS, such as one from the retail channel (core or pro) or Windows RT, then I am not sure if you can do an in-place upgrade in the same way. Probably
not for RT since you can't download that OS from anywhere that I am aware of.

Al,
If you are not using a Volume License version, you will need to make sure you run Windows update (specifically,
KB2871389). One of the updates makes the 8.1 upgrade show up in the store.
If you are on a Volume License, you must follow Tripredacus' instructions above.
Hope this helps,
David
