It's anything that I plug into the USB slots. By the way, I should have mentioned I get this also on my 5yr old Toshiba Satillite MC 8092 laptop with XP Pro SP2 on it. My computer is home built but a new motherboard. I'm thinking it's just finding the way to assign the ports to be high speed. Both computers. Windows help section does not address this and I can't find a Microsoft KB on this.Surely others have asked Microsoft this! How does one know without downloading SP3 if SP3 can fix this? I looked at the procedure for SP3 download and it looks very daunting. I don't have a external backup device for my data so if someone knows how to assign ports for sure, it would be much appreciated. Thanks

It is an informational message and not an error message. There is no "port assigning" required.Open Device Manager, by clicking Start, Run and in the box enter:%SystemRoot%\system32\devmgmt.mscClick OK.Do you see any red Xs or yellow ?s and if so, in what sections? Now expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers section and look for the words:Enhanced Host ControllerHere is an example screen shot of what to look for in your Device Manager:http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/2466/devicemanagerenhanced.pngEnhanced is the key word which means high speed. If Enhanced is not listed, it is just a USB 2.0, but not high speed (hence the message) but a driver upgrade will usually fix it unless the hardware is very old. If you don't seen the word Enhanced, you will see the message you describe.Right click each USB device, Properties and check the driver version. The correct Microsoft driver is 5.1.2600 or later. If that is not what you see, upgrade them individually to the current version by choosing to Update the driver and let it connect to Windows search to find the driver (usually this is not a good idea to let Windows find you a driver, but is OK with the USB drivers). Depending on your system, one update may to them all. If things get worse, roll back any driver updates you make.Sometimes there is a setting to change in the BIOS. In the BIOS under a section for USB, there may be an option for ECxx (enhanced controller) that is disabled. Enable it, reboot. After any BIOS update(s) see if there is a USB Enhanced Host Controller listing. You may have to do both the BIOS and the driver change. You can look for driver updates for your system motherboard on board drivers on the Biostar page:http://www.biostar.com.tw/It is possible to configure a check box in the properties on the USB device to never warn you but then you would never see even legitimate error messages again, but of course you would rather rally fix your system instead of just suppressing the message and also benefit from having the latest USB drivers for your system and only see the message when there is a legitimate issue. Do, or do not. There is no try.I need YOUR votes and points for helpful replies and Propose as Answers. I am saving up for a pony!

I thought it had 4x 2.0 USB Port and 2x USB 2.0 HeaderHey jt3219 ... do this so we can be sure about your motherboard:Click Start, Run and in the box enter:msinfo32Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information back here. For video driver information, expand the Components, click Display, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information back here. There will be some personal information (like System Name and User Name), and whatever appears to be private information to you, just delete it from the pasted information. This will minimize back and forth Q&A and eliminate guesswork.Should have asked that in the first place!Do, or do not. I'm out of ideas.Googling your message text get some hits, but you can do that if you haven't already.Unless there is something about the device you are plugging in - try another device, is it just that particular device, try a third machine to see if the message follows the device...Do, or do not. The only portable USB devices I take between any computers (work and home) is my PNY Attache' 1gig flash drive and a Rainbow SuperPro security program lock. Both devices show this message.
