Get message stating 'Applying Microsoft Disk Quota Policy', every time system boots
Hi all: Hope this is the correct forum. Every time I boot my system, I get a message, just after the default blue background screen appears and just before the login screen comes up, stating: "Applying Microsoft Disk Quota Policy". It sits there for approx 30 seconds (seems longer) then I get the login screen, I sign in and the boot completes successfully. This is accompanied by an event in the 'System' event logs. It throws an event ID of 1085 which, from what I can tell, is a generic event for Disk Quota and about ten other items. There is no further info that I can find for this event in TechNet. To the best of my knowledge a Disk Quota Policy is not set and never has been set on this machine; it's a new, clean install, NOT an upgrade. I've done the following: 1 - I've verified that each of my hard-drives (C & D) and the two USB drives all have quotas disabled. a - I mean that on 'Properties / Quota', the item 'Enable quota management' is unchecked - and never has been checked. 2 - I've been through the Group Policy MMC and as far as I can tell there is nothing about disk quotas that has been configured a - I freely admit I could easily have missed something. 3 - Seached quite a few Win 7 forums for similar problems but found nothing. Unfortunately I can't remember when this first showed up but it was at least a month after I'd started the system for the first time. I'm getting very few other errors and would love to get rid of this one. I have not changed a single thing in the registry. System info: Win 7 Ultimate x64 running on an Asus board M4N72-E, AMD Phenom quad-proc 2.8 Ghz CPU, 8 GB Kingston ddr2, 1TB (C) drive and 1 160GB (D) drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is the computer is a domain? If so it should be applied by the Domain Controller. If the computer is not in a domain, I suspect that related policies are added by some third party servers or programs. You can run the following command in a command prompt window that is run with administrator privilege. gpresult /z > %userprofile%\Desktop\gpresult.txt Then open the file gpresult.txt on Desktop, check the Disk Quota section to see if any policies are applied and view the detail information.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Hi Arthur: The system is a standalone workstation. The only other system is on the network is a standalone workstation running XP SP3 used by my wife. I ran the cmd with admin privileges and it came up clean. The only reference to 'quotas' anywhere in the output was in the section "The user has the following security privileges", which said, 'Adjust memory quotas for a process'. There wasn't any section labeled Disk Quota in the list. The sections under the area labeled "Resultant Set Of Policies for User" were all N/A. Is there any other way I can determine what is causing this? Again, thank very much for your reply and assistance, I-Grok -------------------------------------------------- This is the complete output file: Microsoft (R) Windows (R) Operating System Group Policy Result tool v2.0 Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp. 1981-2001 Created On 4/30/2010 at 6:09:29 AM RSOP data for AAAA/XXXX on AAAA : Logging Mode ---------------------------------------------- OS Configuration: Standalone Workstation OS Version: 6.1.7600 Site Name: N/A Roaming Profile: N/A Local Profile: C:\Users\XXX Connected over a slow link?: No COMPUTER SETTINGS ------------------ Last time Group Policy was applied: 4/30/2010 at 5:55:40 AM Group Policy was applied from: N/A Group Policy slow link threshold: 500 kbps Domain Name: AAAA Domain Type: <Local Computer> Applied Group Policy Objects ----------------------------- Local Group Policy The computer is a part of the following security groups ------------------------------------------------------- System Mandatory Level Everyone IIS_WPG BUILTIN\Users NT AUTHORITY\SERVICE CONSOLE LOGON NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users This Organization BDESVC BITS CertPropSvc EapHost hkmsvc IKEEXT iphlpsvc LanmanServer MMCSS MSiSCSI RasAuto RasMan RemoteAccess Schedule SCPolicySvc SENS SessionEnv SharedAccess ShellHWDetection wercplsupport Winmgmt wuauserv LOCAL BUILTIN\Administrators Resultant Set Of Policies for Computer --------------------------------------- Software Installations ---------------------- N/A Startup Scripts --------------- N/A Shutdown Scripts ---------------- N/A Account Policies ---------------- N/A Audit Policy ------------ N/A User Rights ----------- N/A Security Options ---------------- N/A N/A Event Log Settings ------------------ N/A Restricted Groups ----------------- N/A System Services --------------- N/A Registry Settings ----------------- N/A File System Settings -------------------- N/A Public Key Policies ------------------- N/A Administrative Templates ------------------------ GPO: Local Group Policy KeyName: Software\Policies\Microsoft\Messenger\Client\PreventAutoRun Value: 1, 0, 0, 0 State: Enabled GPO: Local Group Policy KeyName: Software\Policies\Microsoft\Messenger\Client\PreventRun Value: 1, 0, 0, 0 State: Enabled USER SETTINGS -------------- Last time Group Policy was applied: 4/30/2010 at 6:04:17 AM Group Policy was applied from: N/A Group Policy slow link threshold: 500 kbps Domain Name: AAAA Domain Type: <Local Computer> Applied Group Policy Objects ----------------------------- N/A The following GPOs were not applied because they were filtered out ------------------------------------------------------------------- Local Group Policy Filtering: Not Applied (Empty) The user is a part of the following security groups --------------------------------------------------- None Everyone BUILTIN\Administrators BUILTIN\Users NT AUTHORITY\INTERACTIVE CONSOLE LOGON NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users This Organization LOCAL NTLM Authentication High Mandatory Level The user has the following security privileges ---------------------------------------------- Bypass traverse checking Manage auditing and security log Back up files and directories Restore files and directories Change the system time Shut down the system Force shutdown from a remote system Take ownership of files or other objects Debug programs Modify firmware environment values Profile system performance Profile single process Increase scheduling priority Load and unload device drivers Create a pagefile Adjust memory quotas for a process Remove computer from docking station Perform volume maintenance tasks Impersonate a client after authentication Create global objects Change the time zone Create symbolic links Increase a process working set Resultant Set Of Policies for User ----------------------------------- Software Installations ---------------------- N/A Logon Scripts ------------- N/A Logoff Scripts -------------- N/A Public Key Policies ------------------- N/A Administrative Templates ------------------------ N/A Folder Redirection ------------------ N/A Internet Explorer Browser User Interface ---------------------------------------- N/A Internet Explorer Connection ---------------------------- N/A Internet Explorer URLs ---------------------- N/A Internet Explorer Security -------------------------- N/A Internet Explorer Programs -------------------------- N/A

I suggest you troubleshoot in Clean Boot Mode. Perform a clean startup to determine whether background programs are interfering with your game or programArthur Xie - MSFT

@I-Grok How did this resolve your issue? What were your findings? I'm having this same issue on my network too. Thanks
