Genuine to not genuine overnight
Hello, This just happened to me and I cannot seem to resolve it. I left my computer run over night so it could do virus scans and updates, when normally I have been turning it off at night. I went to it this morning and it popped up a notification that I might be a victim of counterfeiting, and am getting a not genuine tag at the bottom of the screen. I went through and input the key from Technet and activated it. The screen said that this copy of Windows 7 was successfully activated. I am still receiving the not genuine software notice though. Any solutions?Michael R. Mastro II

Hi, maybe a clue among others : I'd have uninstall and install again Windows 7 build 7000. I hope this helps.

Look in the AV scanning log and see if it deleted or "healed" any files. It may have changed a Windows file.Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

You didn't mention what antivirus software you have installed but you may want to check it to see if any file was sent to a quarantine vault. You could restore the file if your software pick it up as a false positive.Denny

Well I am using BitDefender 2009. There was nothing that was quarantined or deleted during the scan. The only thing that was found was 3 days earlier, and deleted then. The program still worked fine after this file was deleted, so I did not believe it to be this. After 5 reboots of the computer, the OS then said it was genuine. Problem has been corrected, but I will monitor this to see if it happens again.Michael R. Mastro II
