GPO URLs-Favorites and Links issues with Folder Redirection
Hi,
We are deploying Windows 7 in a Windows 2008R2 domain some desktop and mostly laptops.
We have a group policy for desktop users redirecting all the folders to their home drive on the network which runs fine.
Ex: Basic Redirection / Redirect to the following location
%HomeDrive%\Favorites
The problem comes from the favorites deployed by group policy on these machines. We made the test without folder redirection the folder structure & links are there
As soon as the folder redirection is activated, all the favorite links deployed by GPO disapear. The folder structure stays by the way but not the links anymore....
The GPresult /z gives following:
Ex:
Internet Explorer URLs
----------------------
GPO: FRXX-PC-Internet Explorer-Policy
Home page URL: N/A
Search page URL: N/A
Online support page URL: N/A
GPO: FRXX-Favorites-Policy
Home page URL:
http://BTP
Search page URL:
http://www.google.com
Online support page URL: N/A
GPO: FREU-ICT-CIS-Special
Home page URL: N/A
Search page URL: N/A
Online support page URL: N/A
URL:
http://btp:81/users
Make Available Offline: No
URL:

Make Available Offline: No
Any ideas... ?!

Hi,
First, I would like to ask your the question below:
1. Did the original location have the Links files when you completely set the policy?

This is an old problem that first appear in Windows XP SP2 (See KB Article 888254) and still applies today. In Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 you do not have to apply the hotfix however the registry entries still need to be created as follows:
Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click
OK. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\
On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click
Key. Type FEATURE_GPO_BRANDING_WITH_FOLDER_REDIRECTION_KB888254, and then press ENTER.
Click FEATURE_GPO_BRANDING_WITH_FOLDER_REDIRECTION_KB888254.
On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click
DWORD Value. Type *, and then press ENTER. On the Edit menu, click Modify. Type 1, and then click OK. Quit Registry Editor. Restart the computer.
See KB article for more information.
Hope this helps

Hey Juke Chou,
I opened the case in the Windows Server forum.
1. YES The original had the links. Once the folder redirection is activated they are removed. Respectively our laptops user (without redirection) have the links, the desktop user have only the directory structure, no links
