From Win8.1 Home (OEM license) to Win 8.1 Pro (volume license)

Hi

I am running Win8.1 Home on my laptop.  I have access to a Win8.1 Pro (volume license) through my university.

My question is - how do I do the upgrade, keeping all my data and system settings intact?

(I have looked at the info online, and the closest I have come to an answer is 'you need media, this cannot be done through the online Store'.  I have an <Win8.1-Pro-x64 .ISO> disc, is this sufficient?)

Thanks for any pointers.

It means that you insert the Windows DVD into the computer (do not boot from it) and there will be an Upgrade option. However, sometimes programs do get removed during an in-place upgrade.

Note that if you change the OS of your personal system to Volume License, technically, once you are no longer affiliated with the university you have to remove that OS. This is because you would no longer be the license holder.

"However, sometimes programs do get removed during an in-place upgrade."

Thank you Tripredactus for the feedback.  In the meantime I have been doing some searching myself, and have come to the conclusion that it is best avoid this 'upgrade' to Win 8.1 Pro.

1- It appears it offers minimal (if any) benefits for 'off network' users which I will be when at home.

2- It looks like Volume license copies of Win 8.1 DO NOT automatically get upgraded to Win 10. Presumably I will have to wait for someone in IT Admin to pull their finger out for this to happen.

3- Your statement "However sometimes programs do get removed" is worrying. Do I feel lucky?

Thanks again for your reply.
