Frequent Internet connection drops (DNS problem?)
I am having an unsual problem with a Win7 computer. I have no problems accessing computers and other resources on the local network. When I try to access the Internet, I lose connectivity (I think that the problem relates to name resolution and losing the DNS servers.), and if I change any NIC properties such as toggling IP6 ON or OFF, I have connectivity for a few minutes. Additionally, once I am browsing a site, I have no problem continuing to access it. Linux and XP network computers are not having this problem. Any suggests how to correct or troubleshoot problem? Thanks

Is this a wire or wireless connection? Are you using router or basically just a modem to connect to the net? And is the TCP/IP set to obtain IP address and dns server address automatically? Same goes to the router, is it on dhcp or static? Lastly have you try running with another browser like firefox/mozilla? If you're having a router, have you try plugging directly into the modem and access the net for the time being and see how it goes? Any third party firewall other than win firewall? Are you running any P2P file sharing programs?

Hi, Here are some suggestions you can try: Step 1: Clear the Hosts file -------------------------------------- 1. Click the Start Button, type "%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc" (without quotation marks) and press Enter. 2. Right-click on the file "Hosts" (without quotations) and choose Delete. 3. Click Continue to confirm the deletion and verify the administrator permission. Step 2: Clean up the Domain Name Resolution (DNS) cache -------------------------------------- 1. Click the Start Button, type "cmd" (without quotation marks), in the search result list, right click on Cmd.exe and select Run as administrator. 2. Click Continue button to verify the administrator permission. 3. In the popup window, type: "ipconfig /flushdns" (without quotation marks) and press Enter. Thanks, Novak
