Free up space by removing an older version from the startup screen.
When I start up my computer, I get a command promt screen saying to select a version of windows. There's 2 choices that say "Windows XP Home Edition". The top one is the one that works, and the bottom is the that doesn't work & I want to remove that one to free up disk space. How do I do it?1 person needs an answerI do too

That's assuming that would actually free up space. ;-) That entry in-of-itself is just a pointer. If that pointer does not work - chances are the installation it refers to may not exist.-- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP --How To Ask Questions The Smart Wayhttp://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

How do I do it?That second OS boot option is just a redundant entry in the Boot.ini file. You can edit the file and remove the invalid entry. To edit the file:Right click on My Computer and select Properties>Advanced tab and click on the Startup and Recovery "Settings" button and then click on the "Edit" button. However, as mentioned by another poster, this won't save you any disk space at all...John

If this is a new observation, it didn't get that way by itself. It is certainly easy to "fix", if you count preventing the message from appearing as a fix. It's like "My oil pressure light keeps coming on for some reason, therefore to fix it, I will remove the bulb".What do you think caused this issue?Don't guess what the problem might be - figure it out and fix it.
